Rock Lobsta: pop up and pay

This week's latest pop up is a temporary lobster shack in deepest Shoreditch. Here for one weekend only, it's worth a look if you like the idea of a posh pop culture picnic and you don't mind paying for it.

At £15.50 each, the lobster roll must be well on the way to being London's most expensive sandwich. Whilst it's a far cry from the generous and keenly priced beauties sold on the east coast of the US, it's not a bad attempt. Ours came with a good chunk of claw meat atop more mayonnaise-coated tail. The bread is authentically bright yellow brioche. However, the whole thing did end up being quite creamy and rich. It wasn't a patch on the equally expensive but infinitely more sophisticated roll we ate last year in New York.

Despite its lobster leanings, the crab roll and the crab mayo was the smarter buy, with more flavour in both meat and sauce. A comparative steal at £9.50.

Open till Sunday, bring plenty of cash if you are popping by. A good sandwich and a fun concept but worth the price tag for what it turns out? Probably, but only just. Lobster never comes cheap.
